FANFICTION
Ah, Gundam Wing fanfiction, if you have caught my little tidbits from around the site you know of my
disdain for Gundam fanfiction. Yet surprisingly, there are a few good stories out there--you just have
to look, and look, long and hard. Sometimes, you'll get lucky, other times, you will just get offended.
Below are a few stories I have found and enjoyed, either featuring Duo
as the main character or from Duo's Point of view, and they do Duo a little justice.
This has always been tricky-finding a story I am satisfied with that I feel would
represent Duo accurately, perfectly. If I am going to endorse it, it had better be
worth it. Well, these come surprisingly close. The following are drabbles/shorts centered
on Duo, general, because I am attempting to be unbiased! Until I locate any other stories, this is all for now.
Title Midnight Rider
Author Kwycksylver
Genre General.
Commentary This is just subtly insightful. I would also like to say I enjoyed the dialogue-the "feel"
of the story-it was intriguing and I think it stands beautifully on its own. Also, I am a fan of the
Allman Brothers Band, and as Duo often finds himself in the role of traveling nomad on the run, it clicks.
Title In the City
Author Kwycksylver
Genre General.
Commentary I am particularly interested in this story, mostly because it takes place prior to the actual
series and is based on Episode Zero. It is also short, but I really like the writing style, there is also
a great deal to be done with Duo's past, as not much is known about it.
Title Our Father
Author Aki
Genre General.
Commentary Blame my intrigue for Catholicism and its practices and rituals, but I like this one. I am unsure
if Duo would actually behave this way, being so loose
lipped, but the dry humor and wry wit is mostly
in place. It is an curious take on his behavior-Even if it does contain a couple cliches. I
adore a glimpse into Duo's behavior through the eyes of a fellow pilot, if only for perspective.
Title Genuflection
Author Fancy Figures
Genre Angst, religious themes.
Commentary This is fanfiction crack-and when you are as twisted and fucked in the head
as I am-you eat it right up. This will make you squirm, tense, and pull more than a few
heart strings. It's good. How often do I say that about a fanfiction? No less, it is from Heero's
point of view regarding Duo-with a religious theme.
